2010 Topsfield Fair, Topsfield, MA

Carolyn M. Kenney
The exciting and well-attended Topsfield Fair will be held this year from October 1 - 11, 2010 in Topsfield, Massachusetts just off Route 1. The Fair was first known as the Essex Agricultural Society Cattle Show with a variety of events held throughout Essex County in Massachusetts. Since 1910, the Fair has been held at its current location thereby making it easier for attendees to visit the many events at one central location. According to the Topsfield Fair website, the goal is " -- to encourage, promote and preserve Essex County agricultural activities and to educate the general public regarding their importance in an atmosphere of fun and excitement through the medium of the Topsfield Fair."

This year an assortment of guest artists will perform throughout the week. Leading the entertainment is the famous Chubby Checker who will sing on Sunday, October 3rd and Monday, October 4, 2010 at 2:00 and 7:00 p.m. both days. On Tuesday, October 5th, The Beelzebubs, an all-male a cappella group from Tufts University, will entertain the crowd. The group, Gloriana, will perform on October 7th followed by the musician, Uncle Kracker, on October 8, 2010.

Coolidge Hall located near the center of the fairgrounds is home to artists and bakers during the week. Smells of scrumptious homemade bread wafts throughout the building while colorful homemade crafts, such as beautiful handmade quilts, line the walls.

Demonstrations at the fair this year include performances by Dana Kunze, World Diving Champion. At the Blacksmith Shop watch blacksmiths forming tools and other objects over hot coals. Visit the Giant Pumpkin Contest, The Beekeeping and Honey Show, the Sand Sculptures or the Open Sheep Show. A multitude of other events are well worth seeing. These include cattle, the Draft Horse Show, stunning Clydesdale horses, Horse and Oxen Pulling, sheep and the amazing Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

For further information on directions, parking and general admission prices, visit the Topsfield Fair website at www.topsfieldfair.org or call fair personnel at 978-887-5000. Tickets may be purchased online along with discounted advance ticket purchases. Three-day passes are available as well. Names and addresses for hotels and motels in the area are also found on the fair website.

The Topsfield Fair has something for everyone in the family - both young and old alike. Enjoy numerous outdoor activities in the crisp fall air of New England!

Hi, just so you know the World Champion Diver will not be performing this year. Everything else sounds great though!
