Toyota Puts Latest Advances in Their Flagship Hybrid

With one single glance there is simply no mistaking the Toyota Prius. Since its inception in 2000 the hybrid car has taken on a look all its own. Some don't care for the triangular look, but those that drive it like the fact that others around them can see that they are part of making the environment a better place to live. The 2010 Toyota Prius does not disappoint in the looks department and still has that classic look about it. But the 2010 Toyota Prius also comes with some highly touted updated features.

While the body looks much the same as it always has, there are some changes that were made. The roof is altered a bit as is the hood emblem. The corners on the car are said to be different as well (source: greencar.com). While the changes are subtle they were done in an effort to increase the already impressive fuel millage.

The first generation Prius got an estimated 41 combined miles per gallon (MPG). The second generation came out and boasted an unbelievable 46 combined MPG. Not to be outdone, this third generation of the hybrid car is said to get 50 combined MPG (source: greencar.com).

Power will not be sacrificed just to save MPG either. The new Prius is going to have more torque than its predecessors did and will also offer three modes of driving. The accelerator has been improved upon to allow for a quicker response when applied. This gives the driver a sportier feel when driving (source: greencar.com). Just because you care about the environment doesn't mean you can't have fun driving as well.

Perhaps the most technical advancement on the 2010 Toyota Prius is the optional solar moon roof. The new Prius will offer the world's first remote air-conditioning system that can operate on battery alone. This will allow the driver to adjust the temperature of the car before even getting in. This feature will be enhanced by the solar moon roof. The solar moon roof will feature a solar ventilation system which keeps the air inside the Prius much cooler while sitting in a parking lot. With the air cooler to begin with, the cool down time with the air-conditioned is greatly reduced (source: greencar.com).

The 2010 Toyota Prius is still a classic looking hybrid car but there is nothing classic about the new features. What more could you want than a faster Prius with even better MPG than before? Now those that want to help the environment can do so with the utmost comfort and style.

Nice piece. Check out my article stacking the new Prius against the new Honda Insight, if you'd like. It is nice to see people covering these new hybrids here on AC.
