2010 Unemployment Extension - House to Vote on Standalone UI Benefits Extension Bill Today
House of Representatives to Beat Senate to the Punch
The House is set to vote on a standalone bill today. Last weekend, after the Senate failed in three attempts to garner the 60 votes necessary to bring HR 4213 to the floor for a vote, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-Cal) expressed urgency that unemployment extensions needed to be passed and quickly.
Speaker Pelosi further showed indications of softening to the idea of offsetting the cost of the UI benefits extension for the first time, rather than continuing to add to the nation's now unsustainable deficit. (Read: "Democrats Seeing Wisdom in Offsets")
It is not known what will be in the new House unemployment benefits extension bill, if it will, indeed, be "offset" (or paid for) or not, how long the extension will be or if it will include or rescind the $25 per month stimulus addition from 2009. There is some indication that the bill may also include an extension of the homebuyers credit. Hopefully, the House will not burden a standalone unemployment benefits extension bill with anything additional that might make it objectionable to Senate Republicans.
Once approved in the House of Representatives, the standalone unemployment extension bill would also have to be voted on in the Senate. It would then need to go to the President's desk for signature to be enacted.
In the meantime over in the Senate, Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-Michigan) introduced a standalone unemployment benefits extension bill and Senators Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins, both Republicans of Maine, are pushing for a senate standalone. As the Stabenow UI extension is not paid for, and having lost the late Senator Robert Byrd's (D-W. Virginia) vote with his passing, passage of this version of unemployment benefits extensions is not a guaranteed win. Nor has Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev) committed to bringing the Stabenow bill to the floor as of this writing. (Read: "Will Harry Reid Bring Stabenow's Bill to the Floor?")
So it appears the House version of a standalone unemployment benefits extension bill may be the best hope for the unemployed at this time. Let's hope it is a bill that everyone in the House and Senate can get behind, and that they will understand the urgency and severity of our need and get unemployment benefits extensions passed and signed into law before the Fourth of July recess, so ALL Americans, including the jobless, will have something to celebrate.

I wish we could all get together and boycot every business possible. That will include no one getting gas or groceries. Everybody letting their car insurance go. Everybody cancel all doctor appointments. Nobody buy any type of vehicle ETC.. With us, these business can not hold up!! They are trying to convince us that we need them more then they need us.. But it is Vice Versa
Also why don't don't we all go sign up for TANF, Section 8, Food Stamps, etc. It is for people who falls under a certain income. I am more than sure all unemployed will be able to qualify. This way They will have no choice but to help you out!!
The one in the House failed. What about the one the Senate is proposing?
