2010 Unemployment Benefits Extension Vote: UI Extension Bill (H.R. 4213) Passes Senate, President Obama To Sign Thursday
After several months of Republican interference and stonewalling, including multiple cloture votes which ended in filibuster and even suggestions that unemployment benefits are a "disincentive" to work, the unemployment extension vote today on H.R. 4213 is finally on its way to President Obama's desk. As a staunch supporter of the unemployment insurance benefits extension, it is likely President Obama will move quickly on this issue to spare out-of-work Americans any further delay in paying their bills. It is being reported on the Huffington Post that President Obama will sign the 2010 unemployment extension bill into law as early as Thursday.
Though recently publicly chastised by President Obama for blocking the 2010 unemployment extension bill and turning their backs on the average American, Senate Republicans continued to delay the inevitable Tuesday and Wednesday. Critics of H.R. 4213 insisted on using up their alloted 30 hour debate period following Tuesday's successful cloture passage (the needed 60 votes were finally secured with the swearing in of new Democratic Senator, Carte Goodwin), rather than allowing a swift and final vote Tuesday afternoon. Still, the 59-39 (majority in favor) unemployment extension vote Wednesday night is better late than never.
So, what does this mean for the average out-of-work American? Unemployment benefits will be restored, and paid retroactively as of the June 2nd expiration, to those who are eligible to another tier of benefits. Unfortunately for "99ers", those who have already exhausted the final tier of federal unemployment benefits available, H.R. 4213 does not create new tiers or extend the time beyond 99 weeks.

WHERE ARE THE DAMN EXTENSION LETTERRS!!
DAMN THOSE REPUBLICAN BASTARDS
Great report !
Well, this is good news. Perhaps it will allow those that are unemployed to get back to focussing on finding a new job before November comes and the pain starts again!
Please people if your going to comment on social issues such as the unemployment extension try to be civil about it. Also use proper grammar and spelling, this little box here alone has a built in spell check that underlines your misspelled words. If you cannot spell correctly or get your point across without the use of vulgar language then it is apparent why you cannot find a job.
Find out where your Govenor lives and get some unemployed friends together. Peacefully picket in front of his Mansion; "Will work for food, rent/mortgage, and utilities". They can't see you from their seats in Washington or State Capitols, but their families will see you out front! Remember, keep it peaceful!!!
I'm 56 years old and worked since I was 17. I diagnose and repair automobiles for a living(Master Technician). I only worked about 9 months in 2008 and only about 5 months in 2009, didn't even apply for UE. I saw this mess coming a few years ago and was somewhat prepared for a decrease in income but not for a jobless market. I know a lot of others like myself and we will do what we have to at home, without the overhead of running an official business. We will save folks money and survive. What is bad for the gov't though is you won't see the first dime of it (accept cash only). Thanks for the opportunity to become independant and encourage all others to do the same. Try keeping your worthless jobs with NO TAX DOLLARS! You leeches have a nice day, really.
I'm not a 99er, but I did exhaust my 26 wks of benefits after I got laid off in January...my benefits ran out just after the deadline for emergency extension of course. I don't want 99wks, I want to find a job as soon as possible, but the benefits would be a major help until I can. Why don't we stop pouring money into foreign bottomless pits, and feed and house our own. I also live in Florida by the way, so I'm anxiously watching to see what Crist will do...
