But now their fate lies in the hands of politicians. To be more precise, their fate is held hostage in hands that seem more interested in politicking than in passing the unemployment benefits extension that could bring these jobless Americans some relief from the nightmare they are living.
Interestingly, most of the unemployed blame the Republicans in the Senate for holding up their extensions and for playing politics with their lives. Then again, that really isn't hard to understand, as the liberal press and the Democrats in the Senate themselves have worked hard to paint that picture. So everywhere I read the comments of these hurting and angry unemployed Americans, I see them blaming the Republicans, hating the Republicans, swearing they'll never again vote for a Republican, wishing horrible things upon the Republicans. Again, it all makes sense, given the barrage of intentionally one sided reporting most are stuck listening to.
But stay with me for just one moment and try to imagine that the mainstream media was not liberal, but conservative. No - never mind that, just try to imagine that it just reported news accurately - all sides of it - as true journalists are supposed to, rather than covering or discrediting some information in order to push a certain agenda.
If that were the case, you would know that there haven't been just three failed votes on the unemployment extension bill, all prevented from passing by the Republicans, as the mainstream liberal media keeps telling you. You would also know that there was another unemployment extension bill that was even better for us, the unemployed, than the bills the Democrats are promoting - a bill that included Cobra extensions and went to the end of the year rather than November 30 and that kept the $25 per week stimulus addition, which the Democrats have removed - a bill that every Republican VOTED FOR but the DEMOCRATS VOTED IT DOWN. (Read: "Democrats Block UI Extension Bill")
You would also know, if the news you were listening to were truly news and not just liberal propaganda, that the Republicans have offered other bills to get us our unemployment extensions, but Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev) won't even allow them to come to the floor.
You would also know that one Republican Senator (George Voinovich (R-Ohio)), offered a compromise to Harry Reid before the 4th of July recess for his (Voinovich's) to be the 60th vote, but Reid turned that down, too.
You would know that the Republicans have also tried over and over and over again to get our benefits restored at least temporarily so we wouldn't all be suffering, worrying, losing sleep, losing our homes and in too many cases literally starving while the Senate tries to work this out, but Harry Reid and the Democrats turned down over and over again every offer of even temporary help to us over the past few months which came from the Republicans. (Read here and here.) And do you know why? Because if we are not hurting, they can't use and manipulate us to vote for them rather than the Republicans.
Look, my friends, for those of you that haven't been following my coverage of the unemployment extension debacle in Congress for the past month or so, you may not know - I AM UNEMPLOYED. I HAVE LOST MY BENEFITS. I AM SUFFERING AND CLOSE TO LOSING EVERYTHING I HAVE, EVERYTHING I'VE WORKED MY WHOLE LIFE FOR, TOO. I fully understand your frustration and anger, but I follow and study this all the time and I know WE ARE BEING LIED TO AND USED BY THE DEMOCRATS.
If you're not already aware, the policies of this administration and this Democrat controlled Congress have failed miserably and the majority of Americans have finally begun to realize it. Polling for the Democrats and this president are abysmal. They stand to lose control of the House and at least lose their overwhelming majority in the Senate come November.
And the majority of Americans are on the Republicans' side on this issue in that they are very, very concerned about the deficit. People realize that that the bill for those trillions of dollars in deficit (four fold larger than what Bush left Obama just 18 months ago) has to come due sometime, and that will mean either huge tax increases (already planned by the Democrats, in fact) or hyper-inflation - or both. Either way, THIS is one of the reasons employers are not hiring. Yes, the deficit and this renegade government's refusal to stop spending is one of the primary reasons American businesses are keeping some $1.7 trillion dollars on the sidelines, afraid to invest or expand their businesses and hire more workers as they wait for the other shoe to drop.
THAT is why the Republicans have voted against the Democrats versions of bills that included unemployment extensions. THAT is why they have voted against the increased taxes in their bills. THAT is why they are trying to stand strong - so we WILL have jobs to go to one day. Republicans are NOT trying to prevent us from getting UI benefits extensions, they are just trying to do so in a way that doesn't continue to hurt the country and doesn't continue to PREVENT JOB CREATION, and they have tried over and over again to get us benefits but the DEMOCRATS HAVE PREVENTED IT.
You see, with Democrats' seats in Congress in serious jeopardy come November, unemployment extensions have become a last ditch stand to separate and stir up a large group of angry people to create another block of Democrat voters. It HELPS the Democrats every single day that they can keep unemployment extensions from passing. It HELPS Democrats every time they get to come to the microphone and say that the Republicans are blocking UI extensions. It HELPS the Democrats, who have the full cooperation of the liberal media, to go on and on about how much they care about us, while REFUSING any idea that doesn't add to the debt, while REFUSING every compromise the Republicans have offered, while REFUSING to vote for any bill written or promoted by a Republican.
I know most of you don't care about what is going on in Congress or why these people are doing what they are doing. You just want to get unemployment extensions passed. The trouble is, if you just go with what you hear, the ongoing cacophony of liberal spin that only presents you with part of the story told in a deliberately biased (and wholly inaccurate way), then you will continue to make bad decisions at the polls that will simply get us more of what we're going through now.
I read comment after comment on unemployment articles all over the web where invariably many people write something like, "Just pass the unemployment extension bill NOW!"
Well, there is, in fact, another fully paid for unemployment extension bill growing dust in the Senate. This bill does NOT increase taxes that kill jobs. It does NOT add to the deficit. It DOES have full backing of the Republicans and could be voted on and passed today - Every Republican is on board to vote for it.
So, if Harry Reid and the Democrats really care about US, the unemployed and suffering, and not just using us to try to save their seats in November, they could put that unemployment extensions bill up and get it passed TODAY.
Now, knowing what you now know, do you really want to wait another week for a Robert Byrd replacement to hopefully get the 60th vote for the Democrats' deficit increasing and job killing bill, or would you prefer that the Democrats stop using us and just put up the Republican's unemployment extension bill TODAY, get us our benefits, while they stop increasing our deficit, and stop scaring employers from hiring?
Contact Harry Reid and the Democrats and tell them to pass the Republicans' unemployment extension bill TODAY. But don't be surprised if you're ignored. How much better for the Democrats to let us suffer on for another week while they make their speeches about how much they care about us and how the Republicans refuse to pass unemployment benefits extensions. Hopefully, at least now you know better.

Post a CommentHi J. Fischer - I have provided many articles with elaborate information about what the Republicans are proposing. Try http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/5539496/2010_unemployment_extensions_senator.html?cat=9 ... to begin with. Many other articles that cover multiple attempts by the Republicans to get us benefits temporarily while the Senate tried to work all this out so we would never have had to go through this. Other bills waiting in the Senate from the Republicans, all have provided full benefits extensions, including the $25 per week FAC stimulus money that the Dems took out. (Reid may be trying to put it back in now, though.) Lots of other examples. But the Republicans have been trying to get us benefits the whole time but the Dems turn them down and refuse to compromise. The Republicans also have complete programs for turning the economy around and creating jobs. What the Dems are doing has never produced jobs and what they propose going forward will kill more.
Need help now?
Why are there no examples of what the Republicans are proposing? Why is it that the Republicans always blame the current government for our present problems and give no real ideas on how to fix these problems? I am sick and tired of both parties accusing each other of wrong doing and not working together to fix our economic issues. Both parties are acting like children. DO YOUR JOB! WORK TOGETHER! EARN YOUR PAYCHECK!
Hi Suzy ... thank you for reading ... I pm'd you with a response. :)
WOW and O M G..Harry Reid/Hitler (one and the same)..PLEASE RELEASE THE HOSTAGES!!!!
Knowledge is power and you sure are educating me and countless other American citizens on this issue ~Thanks~
One question - is Reid's term up this November?
I did write Harry Reid, and President Obama. YES, I got a response on what all they have done, and all the jobs they have produced. It made me very upset! I wrote them back and told them that 2 million people need this, and why don't they back the AMERICAN people who put them in office. As of yet I have had no response to that....
So let me get this right, McConell is willing to add 80 billion dollars to this war, BP and Haiti to the deficit that he is so worried about, but he is not willing to add 34 billion dollars to the deficit to help unemployed Americans in a time of need?, talk about hipocrisy really!
OR do this, call Mitch McConnell and tell him to drop the filibuster, because the majority is in place to pass the bill in a minute!
You go girl. Your dedication to this UE subject is so admirable. Blast that Reid politico.
First of all I have generally voted Republican. I am not threatening not voting for Republicans. I am promising and to say that main stream media is liberal seems a little slighted. My point is that I don't care which party your in pass the proposed legislation and play politics on something else.
