2010 Web Trends

I recently came across a video on CNN.COM. The video was titled 2010 Web Trends. The news story was primarily about the trends set by social networking sites such as; Facebook and Twitter. The idea was that people of the year 2010 will want even more information as soon as possible.

Something I thought was intriguing and also scary, was the mention of location sharing. Location sharing is basically G.P.S. (Global Positioning System) driven by social networks. Through enabling our cellular phones or similar devices, our friends and family will be able to visually see our location. The technology has been available for some time now, but seems that it just now is being marketed toward everybody. It is considered to be the "next level" of social networking.

The story touched on more internet T.V. Hulu, an internet television video site, was mentioned as a website that is sparking the trend. I, myself, use the Hulu website quite often. It is a great place to search for most any television episode that you may want to see. Most of my time is spent working, doing school work, family time and sleeping. I don't get the opportunity to watch my favorite television shows. Hulu makes it possible to keep up on the shows that I miss.
Another trend that is expected for 2010, is people's desire to carry less gadgets. Smart phones are making it possible for social networking, internet browsing, taking quality photos, texting, capturing video, G.P.S. directions and a zillion other applications. Why carry iPods, laptops, and voice recorders, etc, when you can have everything on a single gadget?

Obviously, with all these trends, the subject of privacy comes up. The best way to protect yourself is to stay away from the internet. Anything you post is fair game for information to spread. If you absolutely "need" to have your internet (such as myself), set your privacy settings accordingly. Facebook and Twitter both have settings that allow you to control which friends can see your information. If you have nothing to hide... type away.
