2010 Winter Olympic Games: Curling Summary

Six medals were awarded in the two curling events. Canada led in the medal count with one gold medal and one silver medal. Sweden won a gold medal; Norway a silver medal; Switzerland a bronze medal; and China a bronze medal.

Men

Gold - Canada

Canada defeated Norway by the score of 6-3 for the gold medal. Canada posted a 9-0 record in the preliminary round robin tournament, qualifying for the semi-finals. In the final round, Canada defeated Sweden by the score of 6-3, before playing Norway for the gold medal.

Silver - Norway

Norway received the silver medal after losing to Canada, 6-3, in the gold medal game. Norway posted a 7-2 record in the preliminary round robin tournament, qualifying for the semi-finals. In the final round, Norway defeated Switzerland, 7-5, before playing Canada for the gold medal.

Bronze - Switzerland

Switzerland defeated Sweden, 5-4, for the bronze medal. Switzerland qualified for the finals, by posting a 6-3 record in the preliminary round robin tournament. Switzerland's loss to Norway in the semi-finals placed it in the bronze medal game against Sweden.

Women

Gold - Sweden

The defending Olympic champion, Sweden, defeated Canada for the gold medal by the score of 7-6. Sweden posted a 7-2 record in the preliminary round robin tournament. Sweden qualified for the gold medal game after defeating China, 9-4, in the semi-finals.

Silver - Canada

Canada, who won the bronze medal in 2006, received the silver medal after losing to Sweden in the gold medal game. Canada posted the best record, 8-1, in the preliminary round robin tournament, and defeated Switzerland, by the score of 6-5, in the semi-finals, to advance to the gold medal game.

Bronze - China

China defeated Switzerland, 12-6, for the bronze medal; its first Olympic medal in curling. China posted a 6-3 record in the preliminary round robin tournament, but lost to Sweden in the semi-finals. Switzerland also posted a 6-3 record in the preliminary round robin tournament, but lost to Canada in the semifinals, before succumbing to China in the bronze medal game.
