Freestyle skiing is a relatively new sport to the Olympic program, with the moguls first held in 1992, the aerials in 1994, and ski cross in 2010. Eighteen medals were awarded in the sport's six events. The United States won four medals, including one gold medal, one silver medal, and two bronze medals. Canada garnered three medals, including two gold medals and one silver medal. China won one silver medal and two bronze medals. Australia garnered one gold medal and one silver medal, while Norway collected one silver and one bronze medal. Switzerland and Belarus each won one gold medal; Austria garnered one silver medal; and France claimed one bronze medal.
Men
Alexandre Bilodeau of Canada won the gold medal in the moguls, upending the defending Olympic champion Dale Begg-Smith, of Australia, who garnered the silver medal. Alexei Grishin, of Belarus, who won the bronze medal in the aerials in 2002, captured the gold medal in the aerials. Jeret Peterson, of the United States, who finished ninth in 2002 and seventh in 2006, garnered the silver medal. Michael Schmid, of Switzerland, won the first gold medal awarded in the men's ski cross.

Shannon Bahrke, of the United States, claimed bronze medal to go with the silver won in 2002. Lydia Lassile, of Australia, won the gold medal in the aerials, while Nina Li, of China, duplicated her silver medal performance of 2006. Xinxin Guo, of China, improved from her sixth place performance in 2006 by claiming the bronze medal. Ashleigh McIvor, of Canada won the first gold medal awarded in the women's ski cross.
