2010 Winter Olympic Games: Short Track Speed Skating Summary

Adam Hornbuckle
Overview

Twenty-four medals were awarded in the eight short track speed skating events. South Korean skaters dominated the sport, winning eight medals, including two gold medals, four silver medals, and two bronze medals. The United States followed South Korea with six medals, consisting of two silver medals and four bronze medals. With one less than the United States, Canada garnered five medals. Chinese skaters only won four medals, but all were gold, as they swept the women's events. The Chinese's success came, in part, because of the disqualification of South Korea after the completion of the relay event. Italy claimed a bronze medal.

Men

Jung-Su Lee, of South Korea, ranked as the leading male skater with two gold medals and one silver medal. Apolo Anton Ohno, of the United States, also won three medals, but his came as one silver medal and two bronze medals. These medals brought Ohnos's career total to eight, the most won by an American in the Winter Olympic Games. Five skaters garnered two medals each, including Charles Hamelin with two gold medals; Si-Bak Sung and Ho-Suk Lee, of South Korea, with two silver medals; Francois-Louis Tremblay, of Canada with gold and bronze medals; J.R. Celski, of the United States, with two bronze medals.
