Day 6 of the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games ended with the United States leapfrogging over previous single-day Olympic medal count leader Germany to re-take the top spot with 14 total medals. The US also leads the gold medal count with 5 total, thanks to day 6 first place finishes by Lindsey Vonn (women's downhill skiing), Shani Davis (men's speed skating 500 meter distance) and Shaun White (men's halfpipe).

The day's action included seven event finals and the subsequent awarding of 21 more medals, bringing the total number of gold, silver and bronze medals awarded at the 2010 Winter Olympics to 84.

A group of athletes from 23 nations around the world own the 84 medals included in the 2010 Vancouver Olympic medal count through day 6. Previous medal count leader Germany sits in second place behind the United States, with 10 total (3 gold, 4 silver, 3 bronze). Currently in third place is France with 7 (2 gold, 1 silver, 4 bronze), with fourth place host nation Canada right on their heels with a total of 6 (2 gold, 3 silver, 1 bronze).

The other nations represented in the current Olympic medal count are South Korea, Norway and Austria with 5 each; Switzerland, China and Italy with 4 apiece; Russia with 3; Sweden, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Poland and Japan with 2 each; and the Netherlands, Latvia, Finland, Estonia, Australia, Slovenia and Croatia all with one medal per nation.

Second behind the United States in the Olympic gold medal count with 3 each is a trio of nations that includes Germany, South Korea and Switzerland.

The United States' dramatic jump in the Olympic medal count standings is the result of a day of excellent success by several athletes. In addition to the three gold medals won, the US also had three other medalists in Julia Mancuso, who took the silver medal in the women's downhill event behind Lindsey Vonn; Scotty Lago, who earned the bronze medal behind Shaun White in men's halfpipe; and Chad Hedrick, who finished third in the men's 1000 meter speed skating event won by Team USA's Shani Davis.
