For Coach Huggins, he'll be looking to juniors Darryl "Truck" Bryant and Kevin Jones to lead the Mountaineers for the 2010-11 season. Also, the Mountaineers will have seniors Joe Mazzula, John Flowers, Casey Mitchell and Cam Thoroughman to help make another run come March Madness. Sophomores Dan Jennings, Dalton Pepper and Deniz Kilicli will play an important part in helping guide the WV Mountaineers to another Big East title and to make the tournament in March 2011.
Newcomers to the West Virginia Mountaineers that will be competing for playing time are Noah Cottrill who is known as a sharpshooter from the state of West Virginia. Also, Minnesota Player of the Year--Kevin Noreen is expected to get minutes for the Mountaineers. West Virginia signed Darrious Curry out of Houston, Texas who was expected to fill-in for the departure of De'Sean Butler; however, Curry has been advised by doctors to not play basketball again since it may cause harm to his health. This is a big loss for the WV Mountaineers, but they'll move on with the players they have on the team.
The West Virginia Mountaineers should be at the top of the Big East this year. However, filling the void of losing Wellington Smith, De'Sean Butler and Devin Ebanks will be very challenging. Kevin Jones will have to step-up and lead the team and become a vocal leader to all the young guys around him. Noah Cottrill and Kevin Noreen will have to adapt to playing in the Big East quick if they expect to get any minutes for Coach Huggins.
Coach Huggins demands a lot of his players and the players respond to his guidance with passion for the game. Since Huggins has taken the reigns of the Mountaineer basketball team he has helped turn them into a defensive powerhouse. This year will be no different, Huggins will push the players to their best and will have another successful year in Morgantown.
