2010's Worst Gas Guzzling Rides

Leigh S.
It's no secret that people are cutting back these days and with gas prices on the rise, the first place many people are looking is at their daily driver. Most automobile companies promote the vehicles that are most fuel efficient, but many don't point out which are the worst. Making a switch sooner rather than later is going to save you a lot of dough in the long run. Here is the list of the top ten gas guzzling rides:

10. When most people think gas-guzzler, they automatically think Hummer. It's no surprise it's on the list, but the Hummer H3 Alpha isn't as bad as others. At 13 MPG city/16 MPG highway, it's a mere 14 MPG combined. While the extent of it's off roading capabilities are awesome, not many of us use it enough off the pavement to make the cost worthwhile. Expect to shell out at $47,000 for this ride.

9. GMC Sierra 1500 4WD. Priced around $19,300 it may seem affordable given it's 6.2 liter V8 engine with 4 wheel drive capabilities. However, taking a closer look may make you realize you'll be shelling out more over the long run. With 12 MPG city and 19 MPG highway, it gets a mere 14 MPG combined.

8. With seating for 8, you might want to start charging your carpool group if you're driving a Nissan Armada 4WD. While it's spacious and has impressive towing abilities, the engine gulps the gas. Again, tied with the previous two at 14 MPG it breaks down to just 12 MPG in the City and 18 on the Highway.

7. Lexus LX 570. At 12 MPG city/18 MPG highway, and a price tag of $76K, need I say more?

6. Mercedes-Benz GL 550. With 382 horsepower and a 5.5 V8 engine you'd be impressed by the 7 speed transmission, but not the MPG. The break down of 12 MPG city and 17 MPG sill only gets you a combined 13 MPG. Think that Lexus was pricey? This one will cost you a pretty penny at $82,800.

5. At 26K, the Nissan Titan 4WD is one of the more affordable gas gulping vehicles on the list. Differing from the rest of Nissan's fuel efficient cars, this truck will be making many pit stops for re-fuels. Expect 12 MPG in the city and 17 on the Highway. Again, combining at 14 MPG, you'll at least be able to brag about its 4-wheel drive and hauling capabilities.

4. Infiniti QX56 - 14 MPG combined (12 City and 17 Highway), it doesn't have much to brag about. The near 9,000 towing capacity is nice but watch your MPG go bye bye. Best just to sit in this moving box of luxury priced around $59,000.

3. Third place goes to the Land Rover LR4. Land Rover combines luxury, a feasible price tag of about 48K, and performance. It's 5 liter, V8 engine gives you 375 horsepower and 375 pounds of torque. While this beauty is too nice to take off roading, you can take it to the gas station on a regular basis: 12 MPG city and 17 Highway,

2. Not to be left behind, Land Rover Range Rover Sport comes in second place. While smaller than the previous ride, they've added a blower on top of the engine to help increase horsepower (510) and torque (461). Getting the exact same MPG (12 City and 17 Highway, 14 combined) the upfront cost is greater: $74,000.

1. Porsche Cayenne GTS tops the list as the worst gas guzzler of 2010. What does it take to get this honor? 13 MPG Combined. This breaks down to 11 City and 17 Highway. It's non-impressive 405 horsepower, and 369 lbs. of torque will set you back nearly $72,000. A Prius is looking pretty good right now!
