Adele Rules the AMAs with Four Noms While Other Female Artists Dominate: Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Rihanna

Tuesday morning (October 11) in Los Angeles the 2011 American Music Awards nominees were announced by recording artists Pitbull and Nicki Minaj. Based on the artists with the most nominations the females came out ahead. In the major category of Artist of the Year only one male artist made the list amongst the other four ladies. It was also announced Pitbull and Katy Perry will be amongst the performers. The 39th Annual AMAs will be presented live on ABC, Sunday November 20 at 8 p.m. ET.

Dick Clark, the creator and producer of many entertainment and award shows, established the American Music Awards in 1973 as a way to honor the popular genres of music with fan participation. Music fans can visit the official AMA website to vote for their favorite artist and albums. Adele received the most nominations with four that included: Artist of the Year, Pop or Rock Music: Favorite Album, Pop or Rock Music: Favorite Female Artist and Adult Contemporary Music: Favorite Artist.

Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Lil Wayne and The Band Perry all received three nominations. Beyonce, Bruno Mars, Chris Brown, Jason Aldean, Kanye West, LMFAO, Nicki Minaj and Pitbull collected two nominations each. The Artist of the Year nominees include: Adele, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Lil Wayne and Taylor Swift. The nominees were selected based on music sales, internet streaming, radio and TV broadcasts, video viewing and social network activity.
