Russell Brand stars as Arthur Bach. He is a childish playboy who is forced to marry a socialite in order to keep his money. He is an alcoholic; however, he is a lovable alcoholic. There is a sympathy in Russell Brand's interpretation of Arthur. He seems lost and he tries to be a productive member of society. It just doesn't work out. When Dudley Moore played this part, he came across as a sloppy drunk with no moral compass. Helen Mirren is wonderful as Hobson and Greta Gerwig is charming as Naomi, Arthur's love interest. Plus, Jennifer Garner is wickedly delicious as Susan Johnson.
In addition, this film has a satisfactory ending that made me cry happy tears. In the original film, the ending is a cliffhanger. Plus, I am not a huge Liza Minnelli fan therefore, I didn't care if they ended up together at the end of the movie. I wanted Naomi and Arthur to end up together in this film. I also like the movie's soundtrack. I hop that there is no sequel to this Arthur remake because it is obvious what will happen to these characters in the future. Moreover, I think that Russell Brand has a good career in film in his future.
Movies are great. Movie remakes are sometimes good and sometimes they are useless. The remake of Arthur is better than the original. Russell Brand gives the title character likability and sympathy that Dudley Moore didn't give in the 1981 version of the film. There is also a better ending to this film. Finally, the soundtrack is good in this film. Source: none
