Living in a clean and healthy environment is a cooperative effort. Working together through volunteer opportunities for Earth Day is a step in the right direction. The real challenge is continuing these efforts throughout the year.

(1) Wells Reserve EcoDay: April 16, 2011 10:00am until 3:00pm
Volunteer for beach clean up, learn more about joining environmental groups and learn about green living. Location: Wells Reserve at Laudholm, 342 Laudholm Farm Road, Wells, ME. Visit their website for more information: Wells Reserve

(2) Maine Conservation Corps: Appril 22, 2011
The Maine Conservation Corps (AmeriCorps ® Environmental Educators) has plans for an Earth Day project scheduled on April 22nd. According to their 2011 Training and Event Schedule, this is "to be announced." On-going volunteer opportunities, however, are listed on their site.

(3) Maine DEP: Public Participation
focusing on Earth Day through the Maine Department of Environmental Protection is an excellent way to start a volunteer initiative. Visit their site to learn how. Applications and instructions are available for download.

For more Earth Day 2011 volunteer opportunities in your area, consider contacting your local town office, The Boy Scouts or the Girl Scouts. Often times, too, elementary schools work on Earth Day Volunteer events for students and parents to participate in.
