2011 Fun Halloween Costumes Deals

Shopping for a Halloween costume can be strenuous work. The children keep changing their minds about what they want to be for Halloween and the budget is tight this year. Looking at the prices of the different outfits can put anyone into sticker shock. Some of the cutest outfits you can make using what you already have at home. You can also buy inexpensive outfits from thrift stores and dollar stores. Why pay big bucks for one night of candy hoarding? Here are a few ideas for the wise shopper.

Family Dollar has a small selection of Halloween costumes for $8. Your child can be a ninja, pirate, or even a tiger if he or she is a toddler. The costumes do not come with accessories such as shoes or swords.

Dollar Tree always has accessories for costumes for a dollar. They even have costumes for a dollar! What could be less expensive?

While looking for a costume for my six year old son, I found a bank robber costume for $35. The costume consisted of black pants and a black and white striped shirt with a black mask. The only reason this even caught my eye, is because my daughter says her brother is going to grow up to be a burglar. He robs her of her vanilla shakes when she leaves them out.

Since my son does not like masks, I decided there was no way I was throwing away $35 for his costume. I bought a white t-shirt, and a black permanent marker. These two items will not be used until October 29th, when all costume decisions are finalized. We already had a pair of dark pants so he just might be a burglar this Halloween. I saved over $25.

If you have a little boy who wants to be Woody from Toy Story, you should check your closets and Dollar Tree. You need a yellow shirt, blue jeans, a cowboy hat (Dollar Tree), and a speckled vest. You may want to make the vest from construction paper. Chances are good your child will never wear it again anyway. I saw this costume for over $35 on eBay. You can find it in your closet for less than $10.

My daughter wants to be a witch. For $1 this costume is easily accessible. Dollar Tree has it in stock, along with a few others. The witch costume consists of a dress, belt, and hat. My daughter wants to bring along a stuffed cat in a witch's hat as an accessory. For a few more cents I can use construction paper and make the cat a witch's hat.

This will all change by Halloween. If you have children, you may want to save your money by purchasing costumes at the last minute, or making them from what you can find. A little creativity goes a long way at Halloween.
