2011 Golden Globe Awards: Winners and Highlights

"The Social Network" & "Glee" Both Get Multiple Wins

Meucci Cameron
The 2011 Golden Globe Awards kicked off the year of the big shows for stars. Hosted by Ricky Gervais again, I had very high expectations. Gervais made the Golden Globes so much fun to watch last year, I could hardly wait. Greeting the crowd with a "cheers" and a drink from a beer sitting at his podium he promised a night of partying and heavy drinking. He did not disappoint. Gervais bashed everything and everyone from the nominated movie "The Tourist" to the season finale of "Lost." With even a jab at Mel Gibson. At one point in the show he actually announced Bruce Willis as "Ashton Kutcher's dad."

Here is the nominations and winners list for the 2011 Golden Globe Awards:

Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Comedy Or Musical
Annette Bening - "The Kids Are All Right" - Winner
Anne Hathaway - "Love & Other Drugs"
Angelina Jolie - "The Tourist"
Julianne Moore - "The Kids Are All Right"
Emma Stone - "Easy A"

The only one presenter Robert Downey Jr. didn't make overly sexual comments to directly was Angelina Jolie. He did say he's "do" all of them right there on the stage though. What a guy. Benning's acceptance speech got a little blurred as she thanked her partner (Julianne Moore), her children and their sperm donor, and her husband Warren Beatty.

Even though it's the foreign press I thought Michael Douglas would get the sentimental nod. Guess not.

It was inevitable after the Buscemi win that the series would likely carry it's category. The producer who accepted stated that all had the same feelings, "Holy effing crap, we just won a Golden Globe!"

Jon Hamm - "Mad Men" (AMC)
Hugh Laurie - "House" (FOX)

If anyone other than Hugh Laurie had to win this Golden Globe, I hoped it would be Steve Buscemi. Great actor that he is and had to believe this is his first Golden Globe win. It's good to see Steve Buscemi in 'real life' and not the creepiness he always manages to bring across onscreen.

You could see the pure joy from cast mate Kaley Cuoco as she announced Jim Parsons the winner. I'm glad Parsons took home the Golden Globe. I'm sure Matthew Morrison fans are screaming at me right now.

Chris Colfer - "Glee" (FOX) - Winner
Chris Noth - "The Good Wife" (CBS)
Eric Stonestreet - "Modern Family" (ABC)
David Strathairn - "Temple Grandin" (HBO)

This was a huge win, against some major competition, for Chris Colfer and "Glee." A well deserved win for the young man. In his acceptance speech Colfer spoke directly to the youth who watch "Glee" stating in general to those who bully or try to hold you down because of who you are, "Screw that!"

Ian McShane - "Pillars Of The Earth" (STARZ)
Al Pacino - "You Don't Know Jack" (HBO) - Winner

It would have been a shock for Al Pacino not to have won this Golden Globe. Winner of the Cecil B. DeMille award last year, Pacino did an outstanding job in "You Don't Know Jack." Another well deserved win.

MIchael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones were on the red carpet for their first "date" after Douglas' cancer treatments. The actor looked amazing after looking very ill in earlier appearances during his chemo therapy. Great to see them both out and looking so happy. Douglas received a long standing ovation as he took the stage to present the final Golden Globe of the night

The 2011 Golden Globes went off with only the occasional preemptive strike by the sound censors. They weren't even all directed at Ricky Gervais. Anyway, it's always fun to see this many big name stars in such a small setting. Congratulations to all the Golden Globe winners.
