Why San DiegoState is dangerous in the Tournament?
The Aztecs could be dangerous because they went undefeated in their non-conference schedule. San Diego State defeated Gonzaga, Saint Mary's, and California . The Aztecs lost to BYU twice but defeated them in the tournament final. BYU finished the season with a 30-4 record. San Diego State managed to get a number two seed in its bracket.
Reasons San Diego State may not be successful in the Tournament
The Aztecs have never won in the NCAA Tournament. San Diego State lacks tournament experience of success which could come back to hurt them. San Diego States biggest challenges came from within their own conference. The Aztecs could be hurt in the fact they did not play enough strong teams from other conferences.
Aztec Leaders
San Diego State is led by Kawhi Leonard; the 6'7" sophomore forward averages 15.2 points per game. He also averages 10.8 rebounds per game. 6'9" senior forward Malcolm Thomas contributes 11.6 points per game and 8.4 rebounds per game. Senior guard D.J. Gay averages 11.9 points per game for the Aztecs.
Outlook
San Diego State should get their first win in the NCAA Tournament. The Aztecs could challenge Duke for the Final Four spot out of their bracket. However, Connecticut , Texas and Arizona may have different plans. The Aztecs had a great season. However, San Diego State lacks tournament success and experience. San Diego State could build off this stage and be a formidable team next season as well.
