2011 NFL Predictions Week 4

JM Van Horn

After seeing several upsets last week, will NFL fans see more of the same during Week 4 of the 2011 NFL season? The Buffalo Bills, Detroit Lions, and Oakland Raiders all look like they are for real, but can they continue their winning ways?

These are the predictions for the game from Week 4 of the 2011 NFL Season.

Last week I went 9-6, keep track of my performance here with the NFL Pick'em contest.

Carolina Panthers vs. Chicago Bears

The Panthers, who sloshed their way for a win last week are going to face a Bears team that has their offensively difficulties. Panthers' quarterback Cam Newton is going to continue to come back to Earth and will find it hard against an aggressive Bears' defense. Chalk a win up for the home team.

Bears 21 Panthers 13

Detroit Lions vs. Dallas Cowboys

Last week the Lions showed their moxie by coming back from a 20 point deficit to overtake a NFC North rival. They will be facing off against a Cowboys team that is fresh off their Monday Night game. The Cowboys defense is going to give the Lions fits, especially with their pass rush. The Lions will lose their first game of the 2011 NFL Season.

Cowboys 24 Lions 21

Minnesota Vikings vs. Kansas City Chiefs

During week 3, the Vikings squandered away another chance to earn a win this NFL season. Luckily for them they will be playing on the road against the Chiefs, who have had worse luck than them. The Vikings' defense held a potent Detroit Lions offense in check, should have an easier time this week. Defensive End, Jared Allen is going to continue to remind us why he is one of the top defenders in the NFL.

Vikings 24 Chiefs 10

Buffalo Bills vs. Cincinnati Bengals

The Bills showed us their offense was for real when they earned their second come from behind win over the New England Patriots. On the flip side, the Bengals offense was suffocated last week as it regressed against the 49ers defense. The Bills are going to change up this week and jump out to an early lead and never relinquish as they earn an easy win in Cincinnati.

Bills 28 Bengals 17

Tennessee Titans vs. Cleveland Browns

Both the Titans and the Browns are coming off close wins last week and will be eager to continue their winning streak when they meet in Cleveland. The key to the game will be the Browns defense and their ability to contain the Titans running game led by Chris Johnson. Even with the liklely return of Peyton Hillis to their own backfield, the Browns are going to come up short and lose their second home game of the NFL season.

Titans 14 Browns 13

Washington Redskins vs. St. Louis Rams

The Rams will be eager to forget their loss to the Baltimore Ravens where their offense looked inept. They will be hoping their defense can put enough pressure on the Redskins quarterback Rex Grossman, who has been performing as one of the top ten quarterbacks in the league. The Rams are going to bounce back in front of the home crowd and earn a narrow win.

Rams 27 Redskins 24

San Francisco 49ers vs. Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles are sitting on a 1-2 record and are nowhere near playing at the level the NFL pundits thought they would in the preseason. Meanwhile the 49ers have a 2-1 record and are poised atop of then NFC West. Vick did a decent job of pushing the focus off of his performance onto the refs but the truth is he has not lived up to his new contract. The Eagles defense will step up this and shut down an ineffective 49ers offense.

Eagles 27 49ers 3

Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Houston Texans

The Steelers almost lost a close one to the Indianapolis Colts but were saved in the end by their defense. They will be facing a Texans team who suffered their first loss of the season despite a solid performance from their offensive unit. The Steel Curtain is still strong but will not be enough for the Texans offense on their home field.

Texans 31 Steelers 21

New Orleans Saints vs. Jacksonville Jaguars

The Saints showed once more why they are going to be one of the heavy favorites to reach the Super Bowl for the NFC. They will be downright scary if their defense ever gets on track. The Jaguars saw some positive signs in the first career game of Blaine Gabbart though they fell short in the win category. The Jaguars do not have enough tricks in their bag to even have a real chance in this game, unless of course there is another monsoon.

Saints 34 Jaguars 10

New York Giants vs. Arizona Cardinals

The Giants looked down right impressive on the offensive side last week, especially Eli Manning who managed not to turn the ball over, a trend that will be hard to continue. On the other hand, the Cardinals looked sluggish against a Seahawks team and will need to find a way to kick their offense into overdrive. In the end, the turnovers will become the bane for the Giants and allow the opportunistic Cardinals to sneak away with a win.

Cardinals 21 Giants 20

Atlanta Falcons vs. Seattle Seahawks

The Falcons continue to suffer away from the Dome and lost a tough one to a division rival last week. They will now need to travel out West to take on a Seahawks unit riding a one game winning streak. The Falcons will bounce back and return to their 2010 form and there is no better place than in Seattle where the team has holes on both sides of the ball. The Falcons will jump out on top early and hold on for the win.

Falcons 24 Seahawks 10

New England Patriots vs. Oakland Raiders

We know the Patriots can score, but last week they showed their defense was incapable of protecting a lead and they for one weekend Tom Brady looked human. The Raiders earned a win over the New York Jets and will ride the legs of Darren McFadden for as far as he can carry them. NFL fans should expect another high scoring game between these two potent offenses as they fight for their third wins of the season.

Raiders 31 Patriots 28

Denver Broncos vs. Green Bay Packers

The Packers continue to roll right along and will be ready to play host to the Broncos during week 4 of the NFL season. The Packers' defense will follow the same game plan as last week, shut down the running game and focus on terrorizing the Broncos' Kyle Orton. The Packers are going to have little problem tearing through the defense on their way to the team's fourth win of the season.

Packers 27 Broncos 14

Miami Dolphins vs. San Diego Chargers

The Dolphins mismanaged the end of the game last week and lost out on their chance to earn their first win of the 2011 NFL season. Things are going to be harder this week when they travel to the West Coast to take on the Chargers. The Chargers will have a chance to fine tune their passing game against a defense that has been less than stellar. Both teams should put up some point through the air, but the Chargers will come out on the winning side.

Chargers 38 Dolphins 24

New York Jets vs. Baltimore Ravens

The Jets defense looked very vulnerable last week as the Raiders seemed to run the ball at will, while the Ravens passing game looked unstoppable against the Rams. Expect a reversal this week as both proud defensive units will step up and hold the opposition in check for most of the game. The game will be close and will end up being decided by who controls the ball on the ground.

Ravens 17 Jets 10

Indianapolis Colts vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Colts have the Steelers a scare last week as their defense stepped up and gave the Colts a chance at winning the game, but their offense could not capitalize. The Buccaneers will be ready to take on the Colts with their running game and use their defense to keep the lead. NFL fans are going to treated to a low scoring affair with the running game being the lead story the next day.

Buccaneers 20 Colts 13
