Most Notable on the Red Carpet:
I kept a keen eye out for any major fashion mishaps but there were no Lady Gaga eggs rolling down the red carpet or Bjork swan suits swimming down the aisle. There was a trend of 3 basic colors choices for the event though. Plenty of reds, blacks, and nudes were seen.
Sandra Bullock looked mashing in her red Vera Wang gown. Marisa Tomei sported a black, vintage Charles James dress she had bought a long time ago and decided it was time to bring it out of the closet. Hailee Steinfeld was darling in her nude creation with help from designer Marchesa.
Overall this year's red carpet walk was smooth with not many fashion glitches along the way.
One dress that I do have to comment on was worn by Mark Ruffalo's wife, Sunrise Coigney. That dress looked like part golden gown and part Count Dracula cape. Creepy!
Most Notable Hosts & Presenters:
Hosts James Franco and Anne Hathaway were not the best pairing to host the Oscars. Warning signs started flashing when Franco was in the green room, getting ready to begin, and he encountered a social blunder about 'gas' before he even took the main stage.
Hugh Jackman, seated in the front row was the target of a song and dance funny bit performed by Hathaway. Through his polite smile, you could sense he felt the piece was a bit too corn ball spoofy for him. Hathaway got through the whole piece with ease, but I'd have to agree with Jackman, it was rather cheesy.
Overall the show ran smooth, but there were a lot of Franco bumps along the way.
Most Notable Live Performances:
Gyneth Paltrow sang Coming Home and was more than off key. You could not only hear how badly she struggled with singing, but it was written all over her beautiful, but anguished face. She is a lovely woman, but I think she should keep her singing to the shower.
Celine Dion singing, Smile, was a breath of fresh fair while they showcased many industry mates that have passed on in the 'in memoriam' segment.
Performances were paired together in mostly two at time this year, which helped keep pace better.
Most Notable Acceptance Speeches:
Stunned and loud Melissa Leo dropped the f bomb as she accepted her Oscar for Best Supporting Actress, while Natalie Portman, a complete polar opposite, was dainty and sweet with many thanks for her acceptance of Best Actress Award.
Colin Firth was quite funny accepting his Oscar while discussing his feeling that his "career just peaked" and "impulses" he needed to excuse himself backstage for.
The Award winners did a really good job this year of keeping it short and sweet.
Overall Academy Awards Review:
Nicely run this year, a few hiccups, but that's to be expected with a live broadcast.
