2011 Postal Holidays

Federal Holidays and Their Probable Observance Days in 2011

Robin Kay
A few times a year, the hard working people at the US Postal Service celebrate federal holidays by enjoying a day off. On these ten federal holidays, post offices are closed and mail is not delivered, so be sure to plan your postal needs accordingly.

Post offices around the United States are closed for New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr.'s Birthday, Washington's Birthday (more commonly known as President's Day), Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.

In 2011, these postal service closures are likely to take place on the following dates:

  • New Year's Day: Saturday, January 11, 2011
  • Martin Luther King Jr.'s Birthday: Monday, January 17, 2011
  • Washington's Birthday: Monday, February 21, 2011
  • Memorial Day: Monday, May 30, 2011
  • Independence DayI: Monday, July 4, 2011
  • Labor Day: Monday, September 5, 2011
  • Columbus Day: Monday, October 10, 2011
  • Veterans Day: Friday, November 11, 2011
  • Thanksgiving Day: Thursday, November 24, 2011
  • Christmas Day: Monday, December 26, 2011

Please take note that in the event a federal holiday is on a Saturday or Sunday, the Postal Service may be closed the day prior to or the day after the holiday in observance of the holiday. Also, be sure to check with your local post office, as some offices may have shorter hours on days such as Christmas Eve or New Year's Eve.
