*The Screen Actors Guild was established in 1933 to help working actors fight for their rights during the labor movement and is affiliated with the AFL-CIO . It is the only organization to support working actors associated with labor unions and currently supports more than 125,000 actors with 20 branch offices.

*The first televised SAG Awards ceremony took place in 1995 when NBC hosted the Inaugural SAG Awards on February 25 of that year.

*The Inaugural SAG Awards in 1995 was also the first time The Actor ®™ statuette was presented and the first time that regular actors in a comedy and drama television series were honored.

*The recipient of the first televised Lifetime Achievement Award was George Burns. The 2010 recipient is Ernest Borgnine and he will be presented with the award at the January 30 2011 ceremony.

*The Screen Actors Guild has given the Lifetime Achievement Award, the highest award honor a person can receive, to recipients since 1962. The first Lifetime Achievement award presented by SAG honored Eddie Cantor in this year.

*While Lifetime Achievement Award honors only one person each year, SAG presented two actors with the award twice. In 1985, both Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward received the award and in 2000, both Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee received the award.

*SAG "Outstanding Performance" awards are given in various categories including Male Actor and Female Actor in a Leading Role and Supporting Role overall; Male and Female Actor for both Leading and Supporting Roles in a Comedy, and Drama Series and Male and Female Actor in a Television or Miniseries.
