In a salon balayage highlights can get quite pricey, just like with any other coloring technique. This coloring process can be done at home as long as you have time, patience, and use the right techniques. Here's how to DIY your own spring/summer highlights without much hassle.
Decide On What Chemicals To Use
Going with the hot balayage highlights you can use bleach for summery light highlights or permanent color to create lowlights and highlights. Also you can even create multi-tones. This all depends on how much of a drastic or subtle change you desire. The only downside of this coloring technique is if you have a whole lot of grey hair, you'r better off going with the foils or heavy duty pre-softening and coloring.
Add A Slight Moisturizer
No matter what type of hair you have we all need moisture to keep the hair healthy, shiny, and balanced with color. Now your moisture can come from a conditioner or a tiny amount of baby oil. DO NOT OVERUSE IT. Just a small drop will be sufficient enough. First place the product into your hands, rub, and place into the head. This will also help you with the knots and combing of the hair too.
Applying The Color For Summery Balayage Highlights
When applying the color make sure to apply a light layer on the roots and middle shaft, then once you get towards the ends go heavier. By having the thinner coat on the roots it will make the color last longer and grow out evenly with the rest of the highlights. A bolder look on the tips is very hot and so natural looking.
Although this process is painted on using your hands a great tool to work with this is actually a mascara wand or toothbrush. Using a mascara wand or toothbrush it will allow you to dip it into the color product, and draw onto the hair. Can be dipped heavy or light and a pretty decent amount of product can be held on these tools.
Be Artistic Never Worry About If You Applied The Color In Wrong Area
Balayage highlights is the best way to create various colors and create your own signature look. You can throw bursts of colors on certain areas, and then make the other areas chunky. Or go heavy on one section and light on another and alternate. Use your imagination and be your own Picasso. The more creative, the better.
