New Year's resolutions are soon to be in high swing for thousands of people and this list often includes to quit smoking, reduce stress and become more physically fit. Just as these are in the top ten resolutions they are the quickest to be pushed to the wayside regardless of the health benefits.

If you've made the decision to add a fitness program to your 2011 New Year's resolutions because you want to get healthier, stronger, faster or to improve your quality of life research the health facility you plan to join beforehand. It's important to see if the location you're interested in is the best location for you. What's the importance of the location, you ask? When the location of a facility is mentioned many assume it's the physical aspect of the gym that's important when in fact every detail of the location is key. If you're not really sure what I mean here is some information to remember when joining a health club during 2011.

Distance

Travel time is the utmost importance when choosing a health club. It doesn't matter how much you love the facility if it's twenty five miles away from your home it will give you reasons to skip workouts. If the gym is closer to your home or work it will increase the likelihood of going by a large percentage so decide on a health club that is convenient specifically for you. If you join a club that's quite a distance because your buddy wants you to; there's a high chance he'll quit going and you're stuck driving an extra half hour to get to the gym each time.

Classes

Although you may be debating on a huge health facility with a all of the classes you can dream of; you have to keep in mind not all facilities have the same classes or instructors even if it's a chain. If your joining for specific classes that are not available this can be another reason not to attend.

Amenities

Every gym or health club offers certain amenities from towel services to rock climbing walls to salt water lap pools. The complaints often begin after you've joined a gym and realize not all of the facilities have the same amenities. The size of the club does matter and has quite a bit to do with the amenities offered. Smaller gyms may not have the man power to offer a juice bar or other amenities but the important aspect to remember is which amenities you'll find the most useful.

Surrounding Area

You may love the gym, amenities, people and staff of the health facility near you but if you don't' like the surrounding area this gym may not be suitable. For example, if you worry that you'll be mugged exiting the gym at five o'clock in the evening then do not join this facility.
