2012 Catcher (C) Deep Sleepers
Wilin Rosario - Col - C (23)
One of the top power hitting young catchers in the minors during the 2010 and 2011 seasons, Rosario made his major league debut with the Rockies in September last season, and immediately showcased his power hitting ability as he belted out 3 home run in just 54 at bats in the Rockies lineup. With a clear path for playing as a rookie during the 2012 season, Rosario has plenty of upside to put up between 15-20 home runs in 2012. If you want a potential player comparison, Rosario's stat line as a rookie in 2012 could look similar to what JP Arencibia's rookie stat line was in 2011. High power hitting and run producing ability, to go along with a possible below standard batting average.
2011 Minor League Double A Stats: 405 AB, 52 R, 21 HR, 48 RBI, 1 SB, .249 AVG
2011 Major League Stats: 54 AB, 6 R, 3 HR, 8 RBI, 0 SB, .204 AVG
2012 Stat Projections: 45 R, 16 HR, 55 RBI, 0 SB, .260 AVG
Tyler Flowers - CWS - C (26)
Entering the 2011 season with his prospect rating on the downturn, Flowers broke onto the major league scene late in the 2011 season with the White Sox, as injuries opened the door for him to receive regular playing time during the months of August and September. Taking full advantage of his opportunity, Flowers displayed his power hitting and run producing ability that made him a top catching prospect in the minors over his career. With the aging AJ Pierzynski the incumbent starter at catcher, Flowers could easily see an increase in playing time during the 2012 season with the White Sox. Add in the fact that if Pierzynski were to get injured and be out for any significant amount of time, Flowers would immediately become a high upside power hitting catcher in all fantasy baseball leagues.
2011 Minor League Triple A Stats: 222 AB, 36 R, 15 HR, 32 RBI, 2 SB, .261 AVG
2011 Major League Stats: 110 AB, 13 R, 5 HR, 16 RBI, 0 SB, .209 AVG
2012 Stat Projections: 35 R, 12 HR, 45 RBI, 0 SB, .245 AVG
Hank Conger - LAA - C (24)
As a rookie entering the 2011 season, Conger was expected to take the step up from prospect to starter at catcher for the Angels in 2011. Unfortunately those hopes never materialized, and instead Conger saw very limited game action with the Angels during the 2011 season. With new competition in Chris Iannetta for the Angels starting catcher job to begin the 2012 season, Conger should enter the season as strictly the backup catcher. However on the upside, Conger is a proven hitter in the minors, so if he can figure out major league pitching, Conger could easily overtake Iannetta as the best hitting catcher on the Angels roster in 2012.
2011 Minor League Triple A Stats: 100 AB, 14 R, 5 HR, 26 RBI, 0 SB, .300 AVG
2011 Major League Stats: 177 AB, 14 R, 6 HR, 19 RBI, 0 SB, .209 AVG
2012 Stat Projections: 35 R, 10 HR, 45 RBI, 0 SB, .255 AVG
