2012 - with Less Than 1,000 Days Until the End of the World - Are You Ready for a Preview?

Gerald McLeod
With a little over a thousand days left until the end of the world, it is no wonder Roland Emmerich, the German director and disaster film creator, with such movies as Independence Day and The Day After Tomorrow to his credit, has gone on record confirming "2012" will be the last end of the world disaster movie he will direct. He did not comment whether his reason being because 2012 is actually going to be when the world ends. I have spent many hours perfecting my Earth-shattering end-of-the-world formula. Combining this experience, with "2012," I am going to blow the disaster movie end-of-the-world genre away. It was a very difficult movie to shoot. As a matter of fact, a number of people said 2012 was unfilmable. But here it is he said.

Slated to be released in U.S. theaters on November 13, "2012" is based on the Mayan calendar prediction that the earth will end in the year 2012. Re-crafting the Noah story, modern day earth crust displacement will generate massively ocean fluctuations and floods that will end the world (I thought GOD said she would not use that tactic again? Why just the other day I saw a rainbow). Based upon obscure 1950's theories, the world's failure to take their potential seriously and initiate preventive measures creates this cataclysmic outcome.

Desiring to escape the floods and locate a new bastion for humanity, a group of survivors, in their massive arc, designed to save humanity and its culture from the end of the world flood disaster, struggle with all kind of unforeseen calamity. At the helm is John Cusack, a science fiction writer and Woody Harrelson, an eccentric conspiracy theorist. "He smokes a lot of weed," Emmerich quips about Harrelson. "2012" is a special effects orgy, with limited model and CGI usage to depict the destruction of major cities around the world.

The core of the 2012 movie, the Mayan calendar, does not actually predict the end of the world in 2012; it just runs out in that year. Couldn't that be because the calendar maker died and its apprentice did not know where to pick up? Whatever the reason, it is drawing widespread belief the world will end in 2012. So for all you believers out there, if there is any validity to Emmerich movie plot, do not invest in any beach front property and maybe consider purchasing some high quality life preservers and really good water proofing products. See you at the movies.
