2012 Marks the 50th Anniversary of These One Hit Wonders

Bridget Ilene Delaney
One hit wonders are always fun songs. While the artists may be unknown, the fun of them is that the artists are little known, but the songs are fun songs, if not really good songs. 2012 marks 50 years after 1962. 1962 was a good year for one hit wonders. It seems there were at least two one hit wonders for every month other than February and November, which had none.

However, there are only two notable one hit wonders from 1962.

Do You Love Me (Now that I Can Dance?)

This song was recorded by The Contours. In October of 1962, it hit the airwaves. This is a great song for any type of dance. It is especially great for dances where there is competitive dancing. It can also be a fun song to be used ironically for somebody who dances badly. The song hit the charts again in 1988 when it was used in the movie Dirty Dancing.

Monster Mash

Most people know this song when they hear the first line, "I was working in the lab late one night." many people know the artist of this song as "Bobby Boris Pickett." However, it is not well-known that the band is the Crypt-Kickers. This song easily became a Halloween favourite and starting being played at Halloween. This song hit the airwaves just two days earlier than "Do You Love Me (Now that I Can Dance?) In December of 1962, "Monster's Holiday" was released. It was popular, but it did not hit the charts.

Yep, I remember both of those. Often, a lot of the one hit wonders are due to band members getting the big head. Sad, but some of them really have a lot of talent.
