2012 Movie Review: Action Packed or Failed Prophecy

Canbek Diril
"2012" uses the basis that the Mayan calendar predicts the end of the world in the year 2012. Whether this is true or not is causing an argument all over but does make for a decent movie.

As a movie, "2012" was entertaining but if I could go back, I wouldn't spend $11.50 to see this. The movie wasn't bad but does let you down a bit.

Entertaining: 6 out of 10
"2012" had its moments. The visuals were great and had me in awe for parts of the movie. I did enjoy it, but mostly just for the action, nothing much was in the movie.

Boring: 5 out of 10
The movie is nearly 3 hours long and there is plenty that they could have cut. Watching the beginning of "2012" made me want to leave the theatre but thankfully it got much better. You can say that they were setting the stage for the rest of the movie; I say there were much better ways to do it and cut some time out of the runtime as well.

Drama: 6 out of 10
Parts of "2012" become very emotional. With the setting of the movie being the end of the world as we know it, this is a given. They did well to incorporate the sadness into the action but failed to hold any one emotion as most scenes were very predictable.

Acting: 5 out of 10
Acting is what you see this type of movie for so this isn't much of a worry. In some scenes though, the acting had me wondering how anyone can act so poorly. In the end though, it wasn't eye catching but it wasn't disgraceful (for the most part).

Overall: 6 out of 10
It was a movie worth seeing but not for the price of the ticket. I would recommend seeing it at a local movie theatre where they don't charge through the roof. You can also wait till it comes out on DVD or Blue-Ray and won't be missing much. Don't expect it to be the talk of the season.
