2012 Porsche 911 (998): a Future Sports Car Icon

Kyle Busch
Well, in 2012, Porsche
will release an updated
911 with the third-genera-
tion of the water-cooled
(996, 997) 998 sports car.
It is reported that it will
have reshaped and more
aerodynamic sheetmetal
while retaining the classic
911 profile.

Rumors are circulating
that Porsche is working

on a flat 8-cylinder for the car, with displacement of 4.2, 4.5 and 5.0-liters as well
as a Turbo to be offered down the road.

Another rumor is that the current flat-6 engine is going to drop displacement
to achieve better fuel economy and lower emissions. The smaller engines may
well get lightly turboed so that the base models maintain their performance.

The 998 will first be released as the 911 with the coupe and S coming
first, then a convertible and Carrera 4 will come a year later. A C4 coupe
and cabrio, 998 turbo, and GT3 will follow a year after that. And the
Targa, Targa S, and GT2 will round out the offerings.

With all the new models being released and their greater production
numbers, I continue to foresee price declines for some very good
performing used Porsches. The fuel economy of the newest Porsches
will be 10-20 percent better than five year-old used ones however, the
prices of the new cars will be 50-150 percent greater.

Consider letting Porsche's quest for mass market sales volume and
numerous model introductions work to your advantage!
