Women's office wear trends for 2012 are going to take a big cue from the runway and from the new Duchess of Cambridge and her stylish sister Pippa Middleton. The immediate dash to department stores and online shops caused by these two fashionistas means that retailers will be stocking stores with pieces that emulate their favorite looks. The influence of runway fashions on office wear trends is an annual affair, but this year the looks that will translate to workplace well may surprise you!
Pantyhose
Many women feel that pantyhose are not a necessary part of daily wear, and it is true that in America we have leaned away from hosiery and traveled into bare leg territory and favor tights in the winter. However, both the former Kate Middleton and her sister Pippa have been photographed wearing traditional hosiery in a variety of settings, which has lead to a resurgence in interest in the undergarments. Consider adding a pair of hose to your wardrobe as an occasional-wear piece. You will certainly stand out in the workplace for all the right reasons.
The Panel Dress
Kate Winslet has rocked the panel dress on a couple of different occasions and Liv Tyler has also favored the garment. This red carpet trend is sure to be an office wear trend in the coming year. In order to keep a panel dress classy, opt for a darker pattern that accentuates your figure without overly calling attention to it. Also consider purchasing a dress that isn't too tight. Flaunting curves on the red carpet is one thing, dramatizing them in the office is another.
Tunics
Tunics were big on the runway this past season and will likely find their way into the office. While you may not necessarily see the lengthy numbers that dotted the Michael Kors runway on standard store shelves, you can expect to see standard camisoles and shells traded in for short, flirty tunics.
Sleeved Dresses
The Duchess of Cambridge and her sister are often snapped across the U.K. in sleeved dresses featuring either cap sleeves or full long sleeves. Incorporate a few long-sleeve dresses into your office attire and leave the standard cardigan that accompanies sleeveless dresses at home. Bonus: You don't have to work as hard on achieving Michelle Obama arms when you wear sleeves!
Expect to see a lot of U.K. flavor and red carpet flair in the office this year. Work on bringing a couple of new staple pieces into your wardrobe every month, and you will have on on-trend office wardrobe in no time!
