Before giving you the list, I would like to give you a little more facts about the hand held hair dryer, which is also called a blow dryer. The hair dryer was invented toward the end of the 19th century, and in the 1920s a hand held hair dryer was invented that was made from zinc and steel, and had a wood handle.

But this dryer weighed 2 pounds, and produced only 100 watts of heat. So not only was this dryer heavy, it didn't dry your hair very well either, so they didn't catch on like people thought they would.

It wasn't until the 1950s that a lighter hand held hair dryer with higher wattage was invented. When this particular dryer hit the market, it became very successful, and was the beginning of blow dryers as we know them today.
