25 Days of Christmas on ABC Family

Alice Clair Gunkee
ABC Family has released their 25 Days of Christmas lineup supposedly featuring "Christmas" themed movies that will air beginning December 1 all the way until Christmas Day. Viewers are questioning what movies such as Harry Potter, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, and Pixar's Finding Nemo, The Incredibles and WALL-E have to do with the Christmas season. How can Harry Potter fall into both the 13 Nights of Halloween and the 25 Days of Christmas schedule? It seems to me like wizards and witchcraft belongs in the Halloween category, not Christmas.

Cartoon movies are good for keeping the little ones occupied while mom and dad are Christmas shopping. But while Dr. Seuss and Winnie the Pooh are great favorites of the young crowd, there are animated movies with a Christmas theme that will keep them entertained and stay with the holiday movie theme.

When I look for Christmas movies to watch during the holiday season, I expect to find movies with a Christmas theme to them, not movies that were originally released during the Christmas season, nor movies that are related to winter weather. Sure, Christmas comes during the chilly part of the year (for most of the U.S.), but just because it's cold outside doesn't mean it's Christmas.

Viewers are wondering why ABC Family's 25 Days of Christmas schedule doesn't include Christmas classics such as Snowglobe, Eloise at Christmas Time, A Charlie Brown Christmas and The Christmas List. There have been enough Christmas movies made that ABC Family should not have to show the same movie more than once in 25 days. The consensus is that either ABC Family needs to broaden their Christmas movies library or pick movies that are specifically related to the holiday season they are featuring on their channel.
