25 Great Rainy Day Songs

Rainy Days Are Better with Good Tunes

Mike Spain
Rainy days are not particularly the best days for crawling out of bed, driving to work or running errands. They are even worse for sporting events or trying to play a round of golf. However, rainy days have inspired some great songs which you can listen on your CD player, Ipod, or computer. Here is my list of 25 great rainy day songs.

Led Zeppelin

"When the Levee Breaks" dates back to a 1920's blues song by Memphis Minnie and Kansas Joe McCoy. The song is mostly associated with Led Zeppelin being on their fourth album. Versions have been recorded by other artists such as Bob Dylan and blues man John Campbell.

"The Rain Song" is off Led Zeppelin album Houses of the Holy. A song of love, a ballad, and a nod to the Beatles, and the talent of Led Zeppelin make this a great song.

"A Fool in the Rain" is a song off of their album In Thru the Outdoor. The bands last studio album before John Bonham's death.

Guns N' Roses

"November Rain" is a ballad by the hard, rocking band Guns N' Roses.

Blind Melon

"No Rain" by Blind Melon is a song by another band which ended in tragedy

Garbage

"I'm Only Happy When it Rains" another song from my more youthful days.

Prince

"Purple Rain" is one of the best songs by Prince.

B.J. Thomas

"Rain Drops Keep Falling on My Head" by B.J. Thomas is one of the first songs I remember listening to on the radio.

James Taylor

"Fire and Rain" is a song from the singer songwriter category.

Jimmy Buffett

"Surfing in A Hurricane" is a newer song off his. Jimmy Buffett and James Taylor kind of go together.

Joni Mitchell

"Rainy Night House" by Joni Mitchell staying in the singer songwriter section.

Peter Gabriel

"Red Rain" is one of my favorite songs by Peter Gabriel.

Phil Collins

"I Wish It Would Rain Down" is a song by Phil Collins. The song also features Eric Clapton on guitar.

Derek and the Dominos

"Let it Rain" by Derek and the Dominos is a good addition here since we just mentioned Eric Clapton.

Jimi Hendrix

"Rainy Day, Dream Away" by Jimi Hendrix fits perfect next to Clapton.

Grateful Dead

"Box of Rain" and "Looks Like Rain" are a couple of rainy songs by the Grateful Dead. They also recorded "Cold Rain and Snow."

Bruce Hornsby

Bruce sat in with the Grateful Dead from time to time. He also had a rain song called "Mandolin Rain."

CCR- Creedence Clearwater Revival

CCR recorded "Who'll Stop the Rain" and "Have You Ever Seen the Rain."

Bob Dylan

Dylan was one of the greatest songwriters and he wrote a few about rain. "Buckets of Rain, "A Hard Rains A Gonna Fall" and "Shelter from the Storm" are a few examples.

The Beatles

"Rain" by the Beatles finishes the list.

If you have songs to add feel free to add in the comments.
