26 Bible Verses on How to Overcome Anger

How do we overcome anger? The Bible warns us not to be hot-tempered. In conflict situations we must learn to calm down and control our anger. When tension builds up and things start to get out of control it is wise to step back and return to the situation later. The following Bible verses provide biblical principles on how to deal with anger proactively.

James 1:19-21
My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, for man's anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires. Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you.

Psalm 37:8
Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret-it leads only to evil.
