29 Day Giving Challenge - Change Your Life and the Life of Others

When I came across Cami Walker's website I was searching for a way to really get back into building my business and re-motivate myself to get things going. In reading one of my Ladies Who Launch newsletters I learned more about Cami and her new book 29 Gifts: How A Month Of Giving Can Change Your Life. My personality is a bit type A and I decided to look at her website and Facebook page and join the group to begin the 29 day challenge for myself. At first it was easy to think of some things to do for friends and family but after a few days, thinking of the "gives" became a little more complex. Some of my gives were fun and random like paying for the car behind me at McDonalds drive thru or being a secret admirer for someone at work. Serving my family was easier than I thought by making time to play the Wii with my 10 year old son or reading a book to my two year old. What I wasn't expecting is how quickly my giving would turn into getting.

I was focusing on my business and some prospecting one day when all of the sudden everyone I seemed to talk to was open to listening about my opportunity. I even called some past clients that I thought would be awesome to work with and one of them had lunch with me and came on board the following week. I noticed that the law of attraction or "what comes around goes around," was really starting to work for me. The more time I spent time giving to others, the more things started to fall into place in my own life.

As I prepared my lesson for church on Sunday (I teach women from 18 years + about 40 of them) I decided to challenge my class to the do 29 days of giving as they would the 12 days of Christmas. This weekend I've promised to reward them with a fun treat if they tried giving for even one day. I'm excited to have them share some of their experiences with others and hopefully start a pay it forward attitude at least in our city of Auburn, WA.

This experiment, though challenging at times, has brought much more to me than I have given out. I plan to do this at least twice a year and share my results with others so they can enjoy the fruits of their labors as much as I have.
