late, eyes burning from the glow
of the screen
classic introverts
almost stereotypically, comically so
we did better with thin panes of glass
to temper our thoughts
and measure our words
while we spun them out
exhausted but not ready
to go just yet
caught in that uncensored place between sleep
and honesty-
i like you.
i like you back.
a pause, and then something about an awkward silence-
i don't believe in awkward silences.
and then it was quiet again
because it was too soon to say
anything else
we might have thought.
