The sweet fantastic smell of coffee is one that no one forgets. Walking into a coffee shop is one of life's little joys. Here in the Twin Cities are we are lucky enough that we do not just have to go to the "big box" coffee shops we have a fantastic array of independent shops. Independent coffee shops are a completely different beast than a "normal" shop they have an eclectic feel to them that makes you feel so happy and at home and enjoy their uniqueness. It is hard to narrow down a list but here are the top Three in the Minneapolis and Saint Paul area.

Tillie's Bean: This is a fantastic Mom and Pop shop literally for a long time they had only one location and recently have opened a second one but the same rules apply to both locations. Mom & Pop Tillie are happy to share their rules with anyone who asks some of which include, "It's all about the love. Say it anyway you want, but it all comes down to the fact that we love coffee plain and simple.", "We never use ingredients a 5-year-old can't sound out. We bake from scratch using real butter, real eggs and real love. ", "Supporting local art and business keeps our local economy going. " moreover, my favorite "Corsets, coffee and men in tights do go together." That last rule comes from the fact that Tillie's Bean has a long running booth at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival and is by far the cast favorite. So if you want good home loving and a little bit of fun thrown in visit Tillies Bean. Check their website for directions and more information.

The Coffee Grounds: This comfortable little coffee shop is a great place to go for some artistic vibes. They have a small stage that offers a wide variety of entertainment from bands to story telling to open mic nights. They are focused on making sure that the community feels welcome and that there is a feeling of welcome. They reach out to the neighborhood and offer a space where people can meet. They have baked goods and lovely ice cream that is offered along with their coffee products. You can check theirwebsite for full information of events and hours.

Uncommon Grounds: You have to love a coffee shop that looks just like a house. When I go to this spot, I often picture myself slipping into one of my Regency or Victorian era gowns. It is no wonder because the house that it is in is a Victorian house that was built in 1877. Uncommon grounds is one of the oldest coffee shops in Minnesota and is continuing strong in their independent family way. If you want a place, go enjoy a nice gourmet cup of coffee with your friends and family this is the perfect place for it. For hours and full information and to see some lovely photos visit the website.
