Using a spotter can be very beneficial and can help push you to the limits and beyond for each workout. There are also several other benefits you can gain from having a spotter while exercising.
Confidence
A spotter offers an additional amount of confidence that you normally would never have if you were training by yourself. Exercisers will push harder with heavier weights in order to gain muscle and strength. Without a spotter you may not feel confident enough to move up by twenty, fifty and even a hundred pounds. You'll also realize after the movement has been performed you'll feel a sense of accomplishment for increasing your weight and keeping good form.
Guidance
You may be an experienced lifter but there's always room to learn new methods of weight training. Or, perhaps you just need additional guidance during a movement to ensure you're doing the exercise correctly. Your spotter will let you know if you're raising your hips during a bench press or will be there to help you finish "that one last rep" you're trying so hard to complete. In many cases, just knowing that you have someone there to guide you during those last difficult reps is enough for you to push through and accomplish the feat you set out to do.
Safety Precautions
Even when you're working with light weight it's often a good idea to use a spotter; especially if an exercise puts you in a new position you're not used to. For example; using heavy weight while on the decline bench press can lead to serious injuries if you were to drop the weight during the movement.
There are a multitude of injuries that can occur during an exercise but a spotter can minimize this. As a reminder though; if you're lifting extremely heavy weights choose a reliable and experienced spotter to aid you in the movement.
