3 Can't Miss Family Summer Festivals in Charlotte

Cheryl Williams
With the arrival of summer in Charlotte, it's time to start thinking about some summer fun for you and your family. Despite the fact that the heat can be a bit unbearable at times, there is no reason not to venture outside at all. With the sun shining and the temperatures warm, we often feel like we're wasting our time by staying indoors. Why not check out some of the great summer festivals in Charlotte?

Here are 3 that you might want to add to your list:

Family Fun Fest at the Blakeney Shopping Center; June 10, 4 9 pm. This outdoor festival is a great time for the entire family. There is something for everyone, no matter what your age. There will be live music by the Chad Mackey Band, a Kid's Fun Zone, a rock-climbing wall, crafts, and other fun things to do. The event itself is free, but in order to access the Kid's Fun Zone, a wristband is needed ($5 per child, or $15 per family)

Taste of Charlotte, Uptown Charlotte, June 10, 10am. This event is one of Charlotte's favorites, and the largest food festival in North Carolina. This will be the 13th year of the festival, and it is one that my family and I have always enjoyed going to. If you've always wanted to taste food from some of the best Charlotte restaurants, this is the place to go. You can try a variety of over 100 culinary samples as well as try some unique beer at Tavern on the Taste. For the kids there is Adventure Village, and there is also live music to enjoy. There is no admission to the festival itself, and food can be purchased with festival coins.

Charlotte Irish Summer Festival, Uptown Charlotte, August 14, 11am - 10pm. This family-friendly event features Irish music and dancing, drinks, food, and games for grown-ups and kids. Feel free to bring your dogs as well, but make sure they are on a leash. Tickets are $5 for adults, and can be bought in advance. Children get in for free.

Some of the most memorable times for me and my family were those times we spent together at some of these festivals. We did not have to spend a lot of money. We just enjoyed the relaxed, easy atmosphere of being together enjoying something new and fun. So take advantage of all of the fun that Charlotte has to offer. Mark these 3 festivals down on your calendar, and start enjoying your summer!
