3 Cheap Guitar Accessories to Buy with a Great Acoustic Guitar

Phil Dotree
If you're going to buy a nice acoustic guitar, you owe it to yourself to get a few accessories that will keep it sounding and looking great. Otherwise, you're just throwing money away by letting your axe fade away. Don't be cruel--spend a few bucks and get your new acoustic guitar the things that it needs.

Here are a look at a few great guitar accessories that are absolutely essential buys to go along with any nice acoustic. Plus, they're inexpensive--you can't beat that, can you?

Humidifiers. Humidifiers are cheap. They usually cost less than $10, although if you really want to, you can drop $20 on one. They protect your acoustic guitar, which is made of wood (er, hopefully) from warping and drying. A dry guitar can crack and look hideous, but it's more than just an aesthetic thing. You'll lose tone from the low end and the high end of your axe; it simply won't sound the same. If you've paid over $1000 for an acoustic guitar, a humidifier is an absolute essential that looks cool sitting in your case and really won't require much attention once you've paid for it.

A Good Guitar Strap. Ever drop your guitar on a concrete floor and smash it? No? Well, make sure that you can never answer "yes" to that question by investing in a good strap. A leather strap might set you back $25, but it's better than paying for a new acoustic guitar neck or extensive repairs. Cheap straps can come off too easily, so spend the bucks.

Even if you sit while you play your acoustic, you should have a good strap at the ready. Plus, it makes you look cooler while you're playing. Shouldn't every guitar accessory do the same?

A Microfiber Guitar Cloth. You'll save yourself a lot of money with one of those cloths that you can use to wipe down your guitar after you play. For one, finger oils can gradually degrade the appearance of an acoustic guitar, but they'll also make your strings turn to rust very quickly. They also spell an assortment of special sprays that you can use on an acoustic guitar to clean it and polish it, but the most important thing is to have a good wipe down cloth. This one should only set you back a buck or two, and you can even find personalized guitar cloths on the Internet.
