3 Crafts Made from Recycled Vinyl Floors

You can use vinyl floor and recycle it into some fun new crafts to decorate your home. If you have laid some vinyl floor and have some extra pieces, then those are perfect to recycle into these fun craft and home décor projects.

Recycled Vinyl Floor Craft #1: Hand Painted Place Mats

Vinyl floor makes awesome very durable placemats for your dinner table. Vinyl can be painted and used for years, which is what makes this one of my favorite crafts. To get started you simply want to cut out a square of vinyl floor.

Now, sand the edges. You can skip this sanding the edges if you use something like pinking sheers to create a fun detail on the edges. You can also cut designs into the edges with regular scissors.

Now, prime out the whole vinyl placemat craft in primer. I like to use an acrylic based primer like Kilz. Once the primer dries you are ready to start decorating. You can use leftover house paints, acrylic paints, and even oil-based paints. Puff paints also are a great way to add dimension.

Once any paint dries you will want to paint on a couple coats of clear polyurethane. This will protect your lovely artwork from water and food!

Recycled Vinyl Floor Craft #2: Funky Storage Box

Vinyl floor is also a fun way to build a box or storage box out of. I like to simply cut out all the sides of the cube or storage box. They can be glued together with hot glue. Another fun option is to punch hole sin all the corners. Use rope or twine to tie the box together. The bows on the cornered will add a fun touch.

Tip: Be sure to prime paint out the vinyl floor pieces if you want to add some color and interest to the rooom.

Recycled Vinyl Floor Craft #3: Candle Votive

Finally, vinyl floor makes an awesome way to create a fun and funky candle votive. I like to cut a square o vinyl floor, then start cutting out a design in the middle. Any pattern, letters, shapes, or design will do. Now, on to the painting.

You will also want to punch out holes in the edges, so you can tie the vinyl floor piece into a cylinder to work as the candle votive.

Paint out as you wish and you have a fun recycled floor candle votive perfect for years of use.
