Spring Flip-Flop Cakes

These are cakes shaped like flip-flops that you can decorate in spring pastel colors! Gather these ingredients before you begin:

1 package white cake mix
1 ¼ cups water
1/3 cup vegetable oil
3 egg whites
1 tub vanilla frosting
3 cans decorating icing (yellow, green, and pink)
4 rolls Fruit Roll Up chewy fruit snacks (any flavor)
1 package decorating roses
1 package spring shapes

First, heat your oven to 350 degrees. Line the bottom only of a 13x9-inch pan with cooking parchment paper or waxed paper. Make the cake mix as directed on the package using water, oil, and egg whites. Pour this mixture into the baking pan. Bake for 28 to 33 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes. Run a knife around the sides of the pan to loosen the cake and remove the cake from the pan to a wire rack. Remove the parchment paper. Let the cake cool completely for about an hour.

To decorate, cut the cake in half lengthwise. Trim the corners to make them round. Arrange the cake pieces on a tray. Now, trim the cakes to form flip-flop shapes. Divide the frosting into desired amounts to tint. Tint the frosting with decorating icing for whatever colors you desire. Frost the sides and tops of the cakes with your frosting. Now, cut the fruit snacks to form the straps of the flip-flops. Use the tinted icing, decorating roses and spring shapes to decorate the flip-flops.

This recipe makes two cakes or ten servings.
