3 Easy Ways to Remove a Fake Tan

Monica Bullock
Seeing a fake tan go horribly wrong can really disappoint you. An attempt to get a little "color" quickly may result in streaking and uneven staining. Unlike some skin blemishes, fake tans are out there for everyone to see. If you end up looking like an Oompa Loompa instead of Beyonce, you'll need to remove the tan and start over. There are a few ways to erase your fake tan but there are three easy ways we really love using to remove a fake tan.

Makeup Remover

Wipe away excess color with makeup remover. Small areas around the hands, feet and joints can be corrected with liquid remover. Dampen a dry washcloth with the remover and rub it on the streaky areas. Wipe away the color in long, smooth strokes. You may have to use this method more than once to reduce the color effectively. Finish this fake tan treatment with a warm shower, and then pat your skin dry before applying a moisturizer.

Baking Soda Paste

Before hopping in the shower, add some baking soda to a plastic cup or bowl. Add a few drops of water to mix up a baking soda paste. After wetting your skin in a warm shower, use the paste on the fake tan. Rub on the paste using a washcloth or just your palms. Pay special attention to your knees, elbows and heels. Baking soda is a natural cleanser that works as an exfoliator on the skin.

Swimming and Soaking

The easiest way to remove a fake tan is to immerse the body completely in water for several minutes. Taking a swim or even soaking in water will rinse away the color. If you used a deep fake tanning solution, you may have to swim and soak several times to lighten the color. When you choose the soaking method, change the water a few times, draining the stained liquid.

Whichever method you choose to lose the offensive fake tan, just pick one. Trying too many methods at once may make your skin look dried out, even crocodile-like. Follow up these skin care treatments with a moisturizing lotion to even out skin. Allow your skin to several hours before reapplying your fake tan slowly.
