3 Foods that Help Protect Against Ovarian Cancer

Holly Matheson
When detected early, women who have been diagnosed with ovarian cancer have a high survival rate, but there are ways in which you can help your body to fight off cancer causing agents. One such method of protecting yourself and your body is by closely examining your diet and making alterations if necessary. Try incorporating some of these foods into your diet to help protect yourself.

Broccoli
Broccoli has a very rich source of flavanoids that help to battle cancer. Flavanoids found in broccoli are widely believed to have anti-imflammatory and antioxidant activities. While broccoli alone may not be your idea of a great tasting meal, there are many other dishes in which you can incorporate broccoli into your meal while preparing it. Broccoli soup, steamed vegetables with broccoli and cheddar broccoli are just a few of the ways in which you can add the healthy veggie to your meal while preserving your taste buds.

Kale
Kale is a form of cabbage that, in addition to helping to battle against gastrointestinal problems and detoxify your body, can help you to protect yourself from ovarian cancer and reduce your risk of getting it by incorporating it into your diet. Sauteed kale is merely one way that you can prepare the leafy vegetable to suit your desired tastes. In a frying pan, simply warm one tablespoon of vegetable oil and add garlic, balsamic vinegar, etc (to taste) to easily create a healthy and tasty dish.

Tea
You may already be using this one, but if you are not then perhaps this would be a great time to try it out. Regardless of whether it is black tea, red or green tea, if you skip out on the sugars and creams, tea is very effective in reducing your chances of developing ovarian cancer. Say no to teas which are processed or bottled though, as freshly brewed is most effective in giving your body the healthy effects that it needs.

As with any change in your diet, it is recommended that you consult with your physician before making alterations to best determine what is best for you personally. By having a diet that consists of healthy foods and remaining fairly distant from toxins and foods which are unhealthy, you are greatly increasing your odds of preventing ovarian cancer.
