3 Fun Things to Do when You Have No Money to Spend

Clark J. Palmer
Here are three free things to do in Palm Beach County. This is not an exhaustive list of free things to do in Palm Beach County. And if these ideas don't excite you, don't worry, there are plenty of other free things to do in this neck of the woods. Just do some research. This list of free things to do is not in any particular order.

Free things To Do In Palm Beach County

1. Historic Bike and Walk Tour of Delray Beach Download this brochure, get your bike, and learn about the history of Delray Beach. You can see the house of the first mayor of Delray Beach, the Florida East Coast Railroad, or a house for shipwrecked sailors that was built in 1876. The tour goes from Atlantic Avenue just east of I-95 all the way to the ocean.

This free thing to do will also get you exercise. There are lots of free things to do anywhere if you're interested in history and culture.

2. Outdoor chess at PGA Commons This free thing to do was the inspiration for accepting this assignment. In Palm Beach Gardens, you can play chess with large plastic pieces on a checkered stretch of sidewalk at PGA Commons right next to Spoto's Oyster Bar. PGA Commons is on PGA Boulevard just west of Military Trail on the south side of the road.

This could be a lot of fun for the whole family.

This idea proves there are free things to do in unusual places and that there actually are free things to do in a place like Palm Beach Gardens.

3. Busch Wildlife Sanctuary in Jupiter Come see alligators, crocodiles, snakes, owls, possums, bald eagles, birds, turtles, and other animals from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday, according to the sanctuary's Web site. This is definitely the wildest free thing to do on this list.

On Mondays you can see the crocodile and alligator feeding and on Fridays at 2 p.m. there's a presentation on snakes.

To enjoy this free thing to do, take I-95 or Florida's Turnpike to Indiantown Road and head east. Turn right on Central Boulevard and make another right onto Jupiter Park Drive and the sanctuary will be on your left-hand side.

In these tough economic times, it's good to know there are always free things to do for fun.
