3 Great Happy Hours in San Diego

Eleanthe Anderson
San Diego is city with a lot of great bars and restaurants. My favorites are in Hillcrest and the downtown area. Tapas Picasso is a Spanish style restaurant which serves tapas, full meals, and sangria. The Yard House is a large restaurant, with loud music and mounted TV screens. The Bitter End becomes a dance club after hours, and features an underground club. Whether you want to visit to try something new or to get the discounts, all three of these restaurants feature after work happy hours.

Tapas Picasso

3923 Fourth Avenue

San Diego, CA 92123

Everyone I know who has eaten at Tapas Picasso lists it as one of their favorite restaurants. It is a small and cozy restaurant located in the heart of Hillcrest. They serve delicious tapas and sangria. Happy Hour is served from 5-7, and features a special menu of $5 tapas and $10 tapas. Items on the regular menu are one dollar off. There are not any drink specials, but a medium pitcher of sangria is only $15, which is a great bargain and serves a small group. Everything on the menu is good. Try the chicken in plum sherry sauce if you haven't had it yet.

The Yard House

1023 Fourth Avenue,

San Diego, CA 92101

If you head down Fourth Avenue from Hillcrest, you will find yourself downtown. There, you can go to the Yard House. It has a fun atmosphere and a good variety of food and drinks. Happy Hour is 3-6 Monday through Friday and 10 to midnight Sunday through Wednesday. Happy hour specials include a half-price appetizer menu, domestic pints for $3.50, import pints for $4.00 and well drinks for $4.25. Wine by the glass is two dollars off. While there is a great selection of appetizers, my favorite here is the onion ring tower.

The Bitter End

770 Fifth Avenue

San Diego, CA 92101

Another great happy hour downtown is at the Bitter End. Happy Hour is Sunday through Thursday from 5-7, and Friday from 3-7. All cocktails are half price. This bar is housed in one of San Diego's oldest historical buildings. It features three levels, which are the main bar, a VIP area upstairs, and a dance bar and club underground. This is a place where you got to drink! Have a margarita, or two.
