3 Great Salad Restaurants in San Diego

Eleanthe Anderson
San Diego has great restaurants. Whether you are looking for burgers, great Chinese, or authentic Mexican food, you can find it all. However, one area of the food scene that has been lacking until recently is the salad scene. As a frequent salad eater, I know where to find a salad in just about any part of town. It is usually in a grocery store or as an appetizer at a restaurant. Aside from Soup Plantation, most restaurants focused on salad have gone out of business. In the past year or so, this niche has been making a comeback. Here is a look at three great salad joints in San Diego.

Great Salad Restaurants in San Diego: Salad Style, Downtown San Diego

While their website is still under construction, their restaurant is up and running well. I like that the meals here are basic. You can turn your salad into a wrap for a heartier meal or to share. Try the Mexican for a hearty salad that will keep you happy until dinner time.

Great Salad Restaurants in San Diego: Tender Greens, Liberty Station at Point Loma

Tender Greens is a great San Diego salad spot, and it is always fairly crowded. With a fast moving line and plenty of seating indoors and out, that never seems to be a problem. The butter lettuce salad with grilled flank steak is a salad masterpiece. If you work in downtown San Diego and have an hour lunch, you can make it there, enjoy your salad, and get back to work on time. If you have a friend to share it with, their homemade peach cobblers are also divine!

Great Salad Restaurants in San Diego: The Hillcrest Sandwich Shop, Hillcrest

Yes, the specialty of this San Diego favorite is sandwiches, but they make great salads too. And, like their sandwiches, they are large enough to feed two. My favorite here is the stuffed avocado. It is lettuce and veggies, half an avocado, and a scoop of their awesome chicken salad.

Visit any of these three San Diego restaurants for a salad and I think you will agree. They have the best salads in San Diego!
