3 "Indie" Bands About to Take Over Radio

The Following List Doesn't Necessarily Go Out of Its Way to Be Unique, but it Does Look to Permeate the Average Radio Listener's Warped Mentality of What Exactly Good Music Is...or Can Be, at Least

1. Brand New (Interscope Records)

About to make their major label debut on Interscope Records, Brand New's last release on Triple Crown Records, called "Deja Entendu" (2003), created a small buzz on the radio. Their first single "The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows" received a decent amount of spins, but didn't put them on the same pedestal as others bands in their genre who made the jump more comfortably, like Taking Back Sunday and Coheed & Cambria. Brand New's vocalist Jesse Lacey, who also plays guitar and piano, writes the most intuitive, smart and sexy lyrics you'll ever hear. Their first release, "Your Favorite Weapon" (2001), comes right at you in a fast-punk kinda style with the catchiest of choruses. They took a whole new approach to "Deja Entendu", growing up and showing musical maturity in two years that most bands never get around to finding. It was a shock, jumping from one style to another so quickly, but it sure worked. Look for their next release sometime in Fall '06.

Top Brand New Songs: "Seventy Times 7", "The Boy Who Blocked His Own Shot", "Guernica"

2. Boys Night Out (Ferret Music)

One word from the latest work from Boys Night Out...complete. In fact, the album "Trainwreck" (2005) takes the listener through an ingenious journey of life. Each track has a one word title going through the motions of what a lifetime can deal with. For instance, the second track is entitled "Dreaming", while the third is called "Waking". Most of the time, when bands set out to be creative, it seems to come out more corroded then cunning. BNO hits a home run both with the idea, and completing it. The music meshes perfectly with the story trying to be told, so it's more than just a listen, it's an experience. Look out for this band to be all over the dial with their next release.

Top Boys Night Out Songs: "Medicating", Waking", "Healing"

1. Action Action (Victory Records)

Imagine The Cure meeting The Killers, just to give an idea. Action Action definitely brings their own, incredibly refreshing style to the forefront. They currently have two albums released, "Don't Cut Your Fabric To This Year's Fashion" (2004) and "An Army of Shapes Between Wars" (2006). Upon your first listen of the band, it seems like a blast from the past. 80's style instruments with vocals bypassing emotion, purposely. While listening, you find yourself unknowingly singing along to songs you've only heard twice...it's that catchy.

Top Action Action Songs: "Smoke and Mirrors", "Drug Like", "Paper Cliche"
