3 Inspirational Ideas for Daily Devotionals

Becky Fuentes
As Christians, we know that we're supposed to do things like read our Bible and pray daily. But sooner or later, we all hit a wall where it seems like we're just going through the motions and not really getting anything out of our daily devotionals. Or even worse, we stop doing them altogether and just live with the guilt. Here are some creative ideas to help infuse new life into your daily devotionals. Try them out and see which ones work for you. You may find yourself actually looking forward to your daily devotionals again!

Download a podcast by one of your favorite preachers

If you think you're too busy to enjoy quality daily devotionals, you're wrong! In this day and age, you're no longer restricted to just reading your daily Bible reading from a devotionals book. One of the ways I like to liven up my devotionals is by listening to a sermon from one of my favorite preachers from around the country or even the world.

I don't have to visit Houston, Texas to hear Joel Osteen's latest sermon. I can just download his podcast from iTunes. In fact, many of today's most popular preachers have their sermons available for download on iTunes - Max Lucado, Mark Driscoll, Louis Giglio, Casey Treat and Brian Houston are just a few that you'll find.

Load up a few on your iPod and listen to a different sermon next time you're doing some housework or even gardening. I guarantee you'll get a different perspective on Scripture after listening.

Search for Christian videos on Youtube or GodTube

I've found lots of great inspiration on YouTuibe and GodTube. Try searching for Rob Bell's Nooma series or sermon excerpts from Joseph Prince. Watch a few Hillsong music videos and just try to walk away uninspired. It's impossible! Ask friends for suggestions of which Christian videos they like or just view some of the top favorites over on GodTube.

Read the Bible in 90 days

There's a great new program out that challenges Christians to read the Bible in 90 days (about 30 minutes a day). People who have gone through the program rave about coming out of the program with a renewed love for Scripture. If you have the time to invest and the desire to see the Bible with new eyes, then this could be just what you need to breathe new life into your devotionals.
