A natural, flushed look is still one of winter's hottest beauty trends, but not so easy to achieve when you spend most of your days indoors. Rosy cheeks and a clear complexion are perfect for your daytime look this season and are easy to create with a few makeup tricks. Even though I'm a big fan of blush for contouring, I've learned that cheek stains and cream blush products are actually more effective for creating that rosy glow and "warming up" my look.
Here are three recommended makeup products for rosy cheeks this winter season:
#1: Cream Blush
Unlike your standard powder blush, a cream blush works more like a foundation-blush mix to create a soft hint of color right where you need it. The trick to making this product work with your makeup is to apply a very small amount with warm fingertips. This is a great product for creating a very subtle hint of color on the apples of your cheeks. One of my favorites for my daytime look is the Make Up for Ever HD Microfinish Blush. It's great for creating rosy cheeks and also for creating contours along the cheekbones.
#2: Gel Cheek Stain
One product that I tend to use year round is the Tarte Cheek Stain. This water-based gel is very easy to blend and contains ingredients that soften and tone the skin. You can find it in several different shades and just apply it with your fingertips or a very small brush. No matter how much you end up using, make sure you blend it thoroughly with your makeup or you'll be left with some very visible streaks. Stick with the "Doll Face" or "Natural Beauty" shades to create a rosy glow this winter season.
#3: Sheer Cheek Tint
If you do decide that a liquid blush is a good addition to your makeup bag this season, try a sheer cheek tint to create a more visible flush. These products are sold in small bottles just like nail polish. You apply them directly on your skin in small streaks, then blend with your fingertips until you've achieved your desired coverage. Benefit's Benetint is a travel-friendly blush product and is also waterproof. Count on this one to create a rosy glow that looks very natural even under artificial light.
